Invitation to an Evening of Literacy. Tues., January 13, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009Parents are personally invited to join Mrs. Marshall and Mr. Macoun to share in a literate experience to look at non-fiction and digital literacy.
WHY is it important for parents to know about literacy?
Literacy impacts children of all ages. YOU are your child’s greatest teacher and mentor. The habits of mind developed through literacy are critical to success. For your child to safely access and use the internet they need to be digitally literate. Most of the reading students do in high school and university is non-fiction.
This two part evening begins with discussing the definition of literacy and the importance of literacy skills. Parents will have an opportunity to practice these skills and reflect upon their impact on children. The second part will focus on the digital literacy skills your children should be developing so that they can become safe and productive members of our increasingly digital society. Parents will hear about digital literacy projects Aspengrove School is currently involved with and discuss how parents can help foster these skills at home.
We warmly invite all interested parents from our school community and the public at large to attend this evening so that we may share this important information with families.
