Barb Gemma received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UBC. She has also received a Certificate for American Sign Language Interpreter Development. Mrs. Gemma has worked extensively as a Teacher-on-Call and parent volunteer in a French Immersion setting. In addition she has taught children’s art classes in her home studio. In 2005, Mrs. Gemma was invited to work at Aspengrove as an Artist in the School for the Exploratory Program. Shortly thereafter, she began work as a Teacher-on-Call for Aspengrove in all grade and subject areas. Mrs. Gemma strives to create a safe, engaging and rewarding learning environment. Her strengths lie in her ability to be creative and organized and to see her students as individuals. Mrs. Gemma finds teachable moments in everyday situations to enrich children’s knowledge of the world around them. Her interests include photography, painting, djembe (African drumming) and exploring the West Coast’s flora and fauna.
