Voice Lessons

Somatic Voicework™ Lessons are structured in three parts.

First – Assessment: The instructor asks the student to sing simple patterns on various vowels in order to hear how their voice is currently functioning. This is a fact-finding process, and the student is only required to sing as they normally would, stand as they naturally stand, and breathe as they typically breathe, so the instructor can observe what presents itself.

Second – Exercises for the body and voice: Based on what is discovered during the assessment, the instructor designs specific vocal exercises aimed at stabilizing, strengthening, and balancing the aspects of the voice that need support. Posture and breathing are also addressed through simple movements. All exercises are tailored to the individual needs of the student and form the basis of their “homework.”

Third – Repertoire: Students may come with songs they wish to sing, and this is encouraged. The instructor may also suggest repertoire that suits the student’s vocal range and aligns with their current skill level.

Fridays between 1:30–6:00 (Grades 7–12)
